A little shocked I have to say this but please don't feed my work, my writing or my art, to any AI for generative purposes or otherwise. Generative AI is theft, and innocent intentions are not an excuse.

I'm not going to explain why generative AI is bad, many artists and writers have already done that much more eloquently than I ever could. Do your own research. I work professionally in art and have been deeply personally impacted by AI, and seeing AI versions of my characters is deeply upsetting.

re: that fucking staff post. obviously death to algorithms, but i also wanna interrogate the wider underlying assumptions of their logic there cuz. is 'success' having lots of followers & lots of popular posts??? why is that the end goal of using this website. i don't open tumblr to get attention from strangers, i open tumblr to read funny jokes and interesting commentary and to see cool art. encouraging clout-chasing will only increase user engagement if you successfully get people literally addicted to the associated dopamine hit. what if we didn't have to do that!!! what if a website could be a place you went to on purpose because you had fun there!!!!

One day many months ago someone I followed reblogged a post that had reblogs turned off before I could reblog it. I looked at the OP and it turned out to be a user research survey blog claiming to associate with Staff. I took it and complained about various things, and then a couple weeks later one of the things I complained about got changed. People come to Tumblr to immerse themselves in this culture, making it essential for us to ensure a seamless connection between people and content.

To guarantee Tumblr’s continued success, we’ve got to prioritize fostering that seamless connection between people and content. This involves attracting and retaining new users and creators, nurturing their growth, and encouraging frequent engagement with the platform.

Just toggle off "Best Stuff First" in your dashboard settings and scroll away. Want to see more art or fanfic of your favorite movie or show? Follow some tags and you'll find additional posts and new blogs to follow. We've had an algorithm for years—we just don't make you use it if you don't want to.

Tumblr is a place where you can tailor and customize your experience to individual preferences. With this core product strategy as guidance, we'll keep improving Tumblr for new and existing users alike.

Don't get rid of reblog chains. One, that is something that many people on here love, two, that's something that is almost uniquely tumblr, three, that's how a lot of people joined this site, through screenshots of reblog chains that made them go "oh, I want to join in on that and have my comment seen".

If you remove the reverse chron, it changes the fundamental website. The same is true for reblog chains. At the most, have it as an option to toggle off, don't just default it. AND don't just make it like Tumblr Live, where it has to be toggled every single week.
